We’re Committed To Making Better Trash™

We’re Committed To Making Better Trash™

Dieux is often called a sustainable brand, and we can’t help but cringe a little. Describing a company that creates waste as sustainable is an oxymoron. To be honest, our survival as a business depends on consistent growth. With growth comes consumption, and consumption is not sustainable.

While brands won’t save the planet, we can make better choices regarding what we put out into the world. That’s why we’re determined to make Better Trash™.

What Does Better Trash™ Mean?

We’re committed to making Better Trash™ by creating top-notch, efficacious formulas, using non-mined aluminum and less plastic where possible, formulating with sustainable ingredients, and making expert-informed decisions when it comes to choosing materials that are recyclable. We aren’t perfect, but we aim to do better, where and when we can, when it comes to creating our products and packaging.

Best-in-Class Formulas You Actually Want to Finish

Our aim is to always formulate products that are so effective and high quality that you’ll want to use them up completely, instead of discarding or replacing them prematurely. With a thoughtful selection of active ingredients and rigorous clinical studies vetting each claim, you can trust that Dieux’s products do what they say they’re going to do.

Packaging Designed Considering Manufacturing and Recycling

We’re committed to using 100% recycled, non-mined aluminum and less plastic whenever possible. Through our continued research, we’ve discovered that aluminum is a remarkable material. Recycled aluminum is valuable to recycling facilities, and as more facilities adopt eddy current technology, more aluminum is successfully recycled.

Another bonus to using non-mined aluminum? It can be recycled an infinite number of times, unlike plastic, which, if we’re being honest, we won’t be able to fully eliminate from every product or from our future pipeline. (Certain active ingredients aren’t as stable in aluminum as they are in plastic.) We’re also actively working on upgrades to packaging that may be even better than aluminum. Stay tuned there.

Ingredients Evaluated Not Just For Efficacy

When we choose ingredients for our formulas, we don’t just think about how well they’ll perform but also take into consideration their lifecycle and the energy required to produce them. FYI: farming at scale can be very harmful for the planet. A common myth is that naturally-derived ingredients are always better for the planet, but sourcing ingredients from nature can deplete finite resources faster than they can regenerate.

At Dieux, we believe the most sustainable ingredients are those that don’t deplete the earth to make. That’s why we often turn to biotech ingredients—developed using living systems in a lab setting to replicate ingredients that would otherwise be sourced from nature. Our R&D team is constantly vetting ingredients and their environmental impact to ensure the ones we’re sourcing are the most reliable, efficacious, and responsible.

Analyzing How Municipalities Actually Recycle Packaging

Because recycling best practices are a moving target and differ across zip codes, we’ll continue to learn from the experts, visit local facilities, and do the work to make the most informed decisions possible. P.S. Be sure to look up your local recycling guidelines to make sure you’re recycling your packaging correctly!

We’re Also Pushing For Government Policy

As a beauty brand that cares about the environment, we know there’s only so much we can do. Brands like Dieux can change packaging and operations to reduce our impact on the planet, and that matters. But without supportive government policy, it’s like putting a Band-Aid on a broken femur. It won’t hurt, but it’s not solving any of the real problems. That’s why you can expect us to get loud and support policies like Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), because we adamantly believe that companies creating waste, like us, should be expected to clean it up.

So, as we continue to grow, just know that we’ll never, ever stop talking trash.

As always, you’re Dieux-ing great.
